Where Are They Now?

Late comic books. If you've been a collector or retailer in the past 20 years, then you know that particular frustration. No one likes it, but I think we've all come to expect, and even accept, delays. It's disappointing when a story is held up, but a majority of the delayed books out there have A-list, high-profile talent on them, and sometimes those late books are the only places you can see their work.

Some of these books have become infamous in their tardiness, some have become cautionary tales, some are simply gone, never to be heard from again. Chances are, even if you didn't collect these books, you've heard of them....

                           Ultimate X
Publication history: #1 April 2010 - #3 August 2010
(Issue #4 of Jeph Loeb & Art Adams' follow up to
Ultimatum is scheduled to come out in March 2011.
Not exactly "bi-monthly" as first advertised.)

Image United
Publication history: #1 November 2009 -
#3 August 2010
(The fact that this project is plagued with late
books is almost poetic considering the early
history of Image Comics. I would expect nothing
less from the original founders.)

                             War Heroes
Publication history: #1 August 2008 - #3 October 2009
(Mark Millar and Tony Harris put out enough issues to
get the book optioned as a movie.)

Iron Man: Viva Las Vegas
Publication history: #1 July 2008 - #2 September 2008
(With a creative team like Jon Favreau and Adi Granov this book seems like a slam dunk.)

                       Captain America: White
Publication history: #0 July 2008 - No further issues released
(There are a few theories regarding the delay with this series
ranging from "Tim Sale broke his arm" to "Marvel is waiting
for the Cap movie to come out."  to "Loeb's story conflicted
with current comic book continuity.")

The Twelve
Publication history: #1 March 2008 - #8 November 2008
(Marvel put this book on hold indefinitely. According to J. Michael Straczynski, artist Chris Weston "has now caught up on the artwork")

Publication history: #1 December 2006 - No further issues released
(Last news on this was that Grant Morrison and Jim Lee are
planning to finish this story in an original graphic novel.)

Ultimate Hulk Vs. Wolverine
Publication history: #1 February 2006 - #6 July 2009
(Okay, I know this book technically finished, but this was one of the most ridiculously delayed books of the modern age.)

                    All-Star Batman & Robin
Publication history: #1 September 2005 - #10 August 2008
(A lot of sizzle, no steak. I think we all expected a lot
more from a team like Frank Miller and Jim Lee.)

Daredevil: The Target
Publication history: #1 January 2003 - No further issues released
(There was some buzz 5-6 years ago that this book
might return, but nothing has been said since. Kevin Smith has gone on record saying that this project was his most disappointing in comics.)
